EditMichael Alfred Gartner - Born October 29, 1959 in Ottawa, Ontario is a Canadian retired ice Hockey right winger, NHLPA president, and current Hockey Hall of Fame Selection Committee and chair of Hockey Hall of Fame.
Gartner played in the 1972 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a Toronto team.

Gartner scored his 1st NHL hat-trick vs Göran Högosta of Quebec Nordiques on December 1, 1979 at Capital Centre in a 7-2 Washington win.

Gartner played in the NHL All-Star Games in 1981, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1993, and 1996, being selected as NHL All-Star Game MVP in 1993 (4 goals, 1 assist).
He won the fastest skater competition at the NHL All-Star Game three times (1991, 1993, 1996), his record for the quickest lap around the ice - 13.386 seconds, set when he was 36 years old in 1996, and it lasted for 20 years until Dylan Larkin of the Detroit Red Wings broke it (running start). He also holds the NHL record for fastest two goals from the start of an All-Star Game (1993) - in 3:37.
Gartner became the first player in New York Rangers history to have three consecutive seasons of 40 or more goals.
Gartner is tied with tied with Jaromir Jagr and Alexander Ovechkin for the NHL record for most consecutive 30-goal seasons - 15.
Gartner had his jersey number #11 retired by Washington Capitals December 28, 2008.
Gartner represented Canada 58 times at World Junior Championships, World Championships and Canada Cups.
Mike Gartner was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001.
Mike Gartner was inducted into the World Hockey Association Hall of Fame in the "Legends of the Game" category in 2012.
In 2017, Mike Gartner was named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in the league's 100-year history.
