Michael Alfred Gartner - Born October 29, 1959 in Ottawa, Ontario is a Canadian retired ice Hockey right winger, NHLPA president, and current Hockey Hall of Fame Selection Committee and chair of Hockey Hall of Fame.

Gartner played in the 1972 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a Toronto team.

- Wrigley Cup (Telus Cup) Champion 1975 with Barrie Co-ops.

- Emms Family Award Winner as OHL Rookie of the Year 1977 with Niagara Falls Flyers.

- Canada Cup Champion 1984, 1987 with Team Canada.

- NHL President's Trophy Champion 1992 with New York Rangers.

Gartner made his NHL debut with Washington Capitals on October 11, 1979 vs Buffalo Sabres at Buffalo Memorial Auditorium in a 6-3 Buffalo win. He had 1 assist on Capitals 1st goal.

Gartner scored his 1st NHL goal vs Mario Lessard of Los Angeles Kings at 19:15 of 1st period on October 16, 1979 at Capital Centre in a 8-6 Washington win.

Gartner scored his 1st NHL hat-trick vs Göran Högosta of Quebec Nordiques on December 1, 1979 at Capital Centre in a 7-2 Washington win.

Gartner played in 1432 regular season NHL games, scoring 708 goals (90 GWG / 7 OTG), 627 assists with 1159 penalty minutes and 122 NHL playoff games, scoring 43 goals (7 GWG / 3 OTG), 50 assists with 125 penalty minutes.

Gartner played in the NHL All-Star Games in 1981, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1993, and 1996, being selected as NHL All-Star Game MVP in 1993 (4 goals, 1 assist).
He won the fastest skater competition at the NHL All-Star Game three times (1991, 1993, 1996), his record for the quickest lap around the ice - 13.386 seconds, set when he was 36 years old in 1996, and it lasted for 20 years until Dylan Larkin of the Detroit Red Wings broke it (running start). He also holds the NHL record for fastest two goals from the start of an All-Star Game (1993) - in 3:37.

Gartner became the first player in New York Rangers history to have three consecutive seasons of 40 or more goals.

Gartner is tied with tied with Jaromir Jagr and Alexander Ovechkin for the NHL record for most consecutive 30-goal seasons - 15.

Gartner had his jersey number #11 retired by Washington Capitals December 28, 2008.

Gartner represented Canada 58 times at World Junior Championships, World Championships and Canada Cups.

Mike Gartner was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001.

Mike Gartner was inducted into the World Hockey Association Hall of Fame in the "Legends of the Game" category in 2012.

In 2017, Mike Gartner was named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in the league's 100-year history.

Gartner scored the last goal ever at Chicago Stadium vs Ed Belfour at 14:49 of 1st period on April 28, 1994 in game 6 of 1994 NHL playoffs , Western Conference quarterfinals.

Gartner scored the 1st goal in Phoenix Coyotes history on October 7, 1996 vs Bill Ranford of Boston Bruins at 7:11 of 1st period at FleetCenter in a 5-2 Phoenix win.
