Robert James "Jim" Dorey - Born August 17, 1947 in Kingston, Ontario is a Canadian retired ice Hockey defenceman and coach.

- Adams Cup Champion 1968 with Tulsa Oilers.

- Avco World Trophy / Avco Cup Champion 1972 with New England Whalers, 1977 with Quebec Nordiques.

Dorey made his NHL debut with Toronto Maple Leafs on October 13, 1968 vs Detroit Red Wings at Detroit Olympia in a 2-1 Toronto win. He had a 2 minute penalty for holding. Dorey set a NHL record at the time in his 2nd NHL game, picking up 9 penalties and 48 penalty minutes vs Pittsburgh Penguins at Maple Leaf Gardens on October 16th in a 2-2 tie.

Dorey scored his 1st NHL goal vs Ed Giacomin of New York Rangers at 9:46 of 1st period on October 27, 1968 at Madison Square Garden in a 5-3 Toronto win.

Dorey was a tough player, picking up 200 penalty minutes in his rookie NHL season, becoming a fan favourite at Maple Leaf Gardens. He also got injuries, missing many games, but helping Toronto into the playoffs in 1969 and 1971.

Dorey was traded to the New York Rangers in mid February 1972, injuring himself in his first Rangers game and did not play until the playoffs, finishing his NHL career vs Boston on May 7, 1972 in game 4 of 1972 Stanley Cup finals, a 3-2 Bruins win at Madison Square Garden. He only played 2 games for the Rangers.

Dorey had been drafted into the new World Hockey Association / WHA by the Ottawa Nationals who later traded his rights to New England Whalers. He signed with New England in the summer of 1972 and helped the Whalers win the 1st Avco World Trophy in 1973.

Dorey would play 7 seasons in the WHA for the Whalers, Toronto Toros and Quebec Nordiques.

Dorey finished his playing days with the AHL New Haven Nighthawks in 1981. He returned to his hometown and later coached the Kingston Canadians for many years.

Dorey played in 232 regular season NHL games, scoring 25 goals (3 GWG), 74 assists with 553 penalty minutes and 11 NHL playoff games, scoring 2 assists with 40 penalty minutes.

Dorey played in 431 regular season WHA games, scoring 52 goals, 232 assists with 617 penalty minutes and 51 WHA playoff games, scoring 5 goals, 33 assists with 131 penalty minutes.

Dorey played in WHA All-Star Games 1973, 1974, 1975, 1978.

Robert James Dorey was inducted into Kingston & District Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.
