Murray Bannerman - Born April 27, 1957 in Fort Frances, Ontario, is a retired Canadian Ice Hockey goaltender.

Bannerman played in the 1969 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with Winnipeg.

Bannerman started his NHL career started with the Vancouver Canucks where he played one period for the team on February 4, 1978, allowing 0 goals on 7 shots.

Bannerman was the 'player to be named later' when he came to Chicago in 1978. Pit Martin, once traded for Phil Esposito, was dealt by Chicago to Vancouver in 1977. Bannerman played 2 seasons with the New Brunswick Hawks, helping them reach the 1980 Calder Cup finals, losing in 6 games.

Bannerman then joined the Chicago Black Hawks for the 1980-81 season as Tony Esposito's backup for the early portion of his career.

Bannerman got his 1st NHL victory vs St. Louis Blues on December 11, 1980 at the St. Louis Arena / Checkerdome in a 5-2 Chicago win.

Bannerman got his 1st NHL shutout vs Calgary Flames on October 11, 1981 at Chicago Stadium in a 3-0 Chicago win.

Bannerman finally got a chance to shine in the first round of the 1982 playoffs. He won his first two games.....on the road no less, and powered his Chicago team to a series victory over the Minnesota North Stars 3-1 series, then the St. Louis Blues 4-2 series before falling to Vancouver in the conference finals.

Bannerman became the number one goalie in Chicago the next season, with Esposito acting as his backup, and was selected to play in 2 NHL All-Star games in 1983 and 1984 representing the Campbell Conference.

Bannerman sits fifth on the Blackhawks' all-time goalie list with 116 wins and 289 regular season NHL games played. He finished with a 3.83 goals against average and over 1,600 minutes played in a Chicago jersey. Bannerman is also fourth on the all-time Blackhawks' goaltender playoff statistics list with 20 wins and 40 games played.
