William Faulder Smith - Born November 14, 1886 – Died March 3, 1937 was an English field Hockey player from Carlisle, who competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics. He was a member of the British field Hockey team, which won the gold medal.

Smith became a keen sportsman late in school life, in his first year at Trinity he followed football, however, he played Hockey for Cambridge vs Oxford at outside right in 1909. He subsequently played outside right for England in twenty five consecutive games and was a member of Hockey Association Teams which played against Belgium, Holland and Germany, he took part in the Olympic Games in 1920. Smith played for Blackheath H.C., Kent County and later for Beckenham H.C.

While at Cambridge, W. F. Smith was a member of Hawks, Pitt and Athenaeum Clubs and was awarded his crusader at cricket. He became Hon. Secretary of the Hockey Association in 1922 and held the post until his death. He was also a member of the England Selection Committee, and had the rare honour of being an honorary member of the Oxford University Occasionals, the only Cambridge man ever to be so honoured. His mother, Lady Smith, designed the pattern for the England stockings.
