The youngest player (18 years, 41 days) to score two shorthanded goals in one game. Those goals came against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Oct. 21, 2006, when Staal also became the youngest player to score on a penalty shot.
The youngest player to score a hat trick – February 10, 2007, against the Toronto Maple Leafs (18 years, 153 days).

Staal is also the oldest player to win the Conn Smythe Trophy in NHL history - 37 years, 277 days.
The Hurricanes captain led all players with 6 goals in the 2026 Stanley Cup Final, including scoring at least 1 goal in each of the first 5 games of the best-of-7 series. That tied the record for the longest goal streak in a Stanley Cup Final, matching Yvan Cournoyer (1973), Jean Beliveau (1956), Maurice Richard (1951) and Cyclone Taylor (1918).
