Joseph Georges Philippe "Phil" Goyette - Born October 31, 1933 in Lachine, Quebec, is a Canadian retired ice Hockey center and coach.

Goyette played all his junior Hockey in Quebec with Montreal Nationale Jr. and Montreal Jr. Canadiens.

Goyette turned pro with the Cincinnati Mohawks in the International Hockey League / IHL in 1954, winning both the IHL MVP and the IHL Most Points awards and helping the Mohawks win the 1955 Turner Cup championship.

Goyette then jumped to the Quebec Hockey League / QHL, playing for the Montreal Royals, helping the win the Quebec Senior Hockey League playoff championship in 1956.

The Montreal Canadiens claimed Goyette from the Royals in an Inter-League Draft, June 5, 1956.

Goyette played another 47 games for the Royals in the 1956-57 season before making his NHL debut with the Canadiens on February 21, 1957 vs Detroit Red Wings at Montreal Forum in a 3-3 tie.

Goyette scored his 1st NHL goal vs Gump Worsley of New York Rangers at 16:14 of 3rd period on February 23, 1957 at Montreal Forum in a 4-1 Canadiens win.

Goyette would become part of the Canadiens dynasty, helping them win Stanley Cups in 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960.

The Canadiens traded Goyette to New York Rangers in June 1963, where he would play for the next 6 seasons.

Goyette scored his 1st NHL hat-trick vs Eddie Johnston of Boston Bruins on October 30, 1963 at Madison Square Garden in a 4-3 Rangers win.

The Rangers traded Goyette during the 1969 NHL draft in June 1969 to St. Louis Blues, and he would help St. Louis win the 1970 Clarence S. Campbell Bowl and reach the 1970 Stanley Cup finals, losing to Bobby Orr and the Boston Bruins.

Goyette won the 1970 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy.

The Buffalo Sabres claimed Goyette during the NHL Expansion Draft, June 10, 1970. He played for Buffalo for a 1 1/2 seasons before they sold him the the Rangers in March 1972, and he would finish his NHL career there at seasons end.

Goyette played in NHL All-Star Games 1957, 1958, 1959, 1961.

Goyette played in 940 regular season NHL games, scoring 207 goals (36 GWG), 467 assists with 123 penalty minutes and 94 NHL playoff games, scoring 17 goals (2 GWG), 29 assists with 26 penalty minutes.

Goyette turned to coaching after retiring as a player, becoming the 1st NHL Coach of the New York Islanders in June 1972. He was fired on January 29, 1973.
