EditGarry Michael Monahan - Born October 20, 1946 in Barrie, Ontario is a Canadian retired ice Hockey centre and radio broadcaster.
Monahan was the 1st ever draft pick by a NHL team in the 1963 NHL Amateur Draft of 16-year-old players.........Montreal Canadiens drafted him.
A draft was instituted in 1963, with an eye to make it universal and allow all NHL teams an equal shot at the best teenage players. That process took almost another decade to fully implement as the NHL Original Six teams began to divest themselves of the junior clubs they had owned.
Monahan was one of just 5 players selected in the 1963 NHL draft to make it into the league. Pete Mahovlich, Walt McKechnie, Jim McKenny and Gerry Meehan are the other 4.
Monahan made his NHL debut with Montreal Canadiens on October 18, 1967 vs New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden in a 2-2 tie
Monahan scored his 1st NHL goal vs Los Angeles Kings on October 29, 1969 at The Great Western Forum in a 5-2 Detroit win.
While playing for the Vancouver Canucks, Monahan became the 1st player in Canucks history to score a game-winning goal in NHL playoffs when he scored in 2-1 playoff win at Montreal Forum on April 15, 1975.
NOTE
Monahan was teammates with some of the Greatest NHL Players......Jean Béliveau, Henri Richard, Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, Frank Mahovlich, Dave Keon and many more.
