Young made his NHL debut with Detroit Red Wings on January 14, 1961 vs New York Rangers at Detroit Olympia in a 2-2 tie.
Young scored his 1st NHL goal vs Gump Worsley of New York Rangers at 6:40 of the 3rd period on October 11, 1962 at Madison Square Garden in a 2-1 Detroit win.
Young played in 336 regular season NHL games, scoring 12 goals (2 GWG), 62 assists with 851 penalty minutes and 19 NHL playoff games, scoring 2 goals, 4 assists with 48 penalty minutes.
NOTE
Howie Young was also a cowboy actor, and had a minor role in the film None But The Brave, starring Frank Sinatra, an outlaw on the television mini-series Lonesome Dove, the movie Young Guns II and television film Last Stand at Saber River.
