EditMichel Pierre Plasse - Born June 1, 1948 in Montreal, Quebec – Died December 30, 2006 in La Visitation-de-l'Île-Dupas, Quebec was a Canadian ice Hockey goaltender.
- Calder Cup Champion 1972 with Nova Scotia Voyageurs.
- Stanley Cup Champion 1973 with Montreal Canadiens.
Plasse was selected 1st overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1968 NHL Amateur Draft. He was traded to St. Louis Blues on December 11, 1970.
Plasse made his NHL debut with St. Louis Blues on March 30, 1971 vs Los Angeles Kings at St. Louis Arena in a 4-3 Blues win, also his 1st NHL victory.
Plasse played just that 1 game for St. Louis, then the Blues sold him back to Montreal on August 23, 1971.
Plasse played the 1971-72 season for the Nova Scotia Voyageurs, helping them win the Calder Cup championship.
Plasse finally got to play for the team that drafted him, winning his 1st game playing for the Canadiens vs the Vancouver Canucks on October 21, 1972 at Montreal Forum in a 5-3 Canadiens win. Plasse played 32 games for the Canadiens over the next 2 seasons, as he was the backup for Ken Dryden.
While playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Plasse got his 1st NHL shutout vs Minnesota North Stars on March 6, 1976 at Pittsburgh Civic Arena in 5-0 Penguins win.
Plasse played in 298 regular season NHL games, winning 92, losing 136 with 53 ties, 2 shutouts, 3.79 GAA, 9 assists with 62 penalty minutes and 4 NHL playoff games, winning 1, losing 2, 1 shutout and 2.78 GAA.
NOTE
Plasse is credited with scoring the 1st goal by a pro goalie, when on February 21, 1971 while playing with Kansas City Blues, scored on Oklahoma City Blazers.... empty net goal.
Chuck Rayner scored in 1944, but he was playing for a Royal Canadian Navy Team in WWII, so not professionally at that time.
