Lemieux made his NHL debut with Montreal Canadiens on October 13, 1983 vs Boston Bruins at Boston Garden in a 4-2 Bruins win.
Lemieux scored his 1st NHL goal vs Tom Barrasso of Buffalo Sabres at 18:21 of 2nd period on December 4, 1983 at Buffalo Memorial Auditorium in a 6-2 Sabres win.
Lemieux scored his 1st NHL hat-trick vs Sean Burke of New Jersey Devils on October 14, 1988 at Brendan Byrne Arena in a 7-3 Canadiens win. His 2nd goal was the game winner.
Lemieux played in 1215 regular season NHL games, scoring 379 goals (58 GWG / 3 OTG), 407 assists with 1777 penalty minutes and 234 NHL playoff games, scoring 80 goals (19 GWG / 3 OTG), 78 assists with 529 penalty minutes.

Lemieux is remembered as one of the best agitators in the NHL, a pest, and at times a "dirty" player, but he was also a clutch player, scoring the big goals when the team needed them.
Lemieux was one of the most hated players in the NHL, which resulted from his dirty playing style.
Claude Lemieux was inducted into Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Hall of Fame in 2005.

Lemieux became the first rookie to score an overtime goal in Game 7 of an NHL playoff series (Montreal Canadiens vs Hartford Whalers on April 29, 1986).
