EditRonald Laurence "Ron" Wilson - Born May 28, 1955 in Windsor, Ontario is a Canadian/American retired ice Hockey defenseman and coach.

Wilson moved to Riverside, RI, when he was 12 years old. He holds both Canadian and USA citizenships, and has represented Team USA as both a player (5 times) and a coach (9 times). Both his father, Larry Wilson, an AHL Hall of Famer, and his uncle, Johnny Wilson, played for the Detroit Red Wings in the 1950s and later coached in the NHL.
Wilson played his junior Hockey in college with the Providence College Friars and is still the Friars’ all-time leading scorer. He led the nation in points in the 1974-75 season, playing 26 games and scored 26 goals with 61 assists (87 points). He still holds the school records (and NCAA records for defensemen) in career points (250), assists (172), most points in a single season (87) and single-season assists (61).
Wilson 1st represented the USA at the 1975 World ice Hockey Championships (6th place).
Wilson made his NHL debut with Toronto Maple Leafs on March 4, 1978 vs Vancouver Canucks, also scoring his 1st NHL goal vs Curt Ridley at 15:12 of 2nd period at Maple Leaf Gardens in a 4-3 Toronto win. He also had 1 assist in the game.
Wilson played in 177 regular season NHL games, scoring 26 goals (2 GWG), 67 assists with 68 penalty minutes and 20 NHL playoff games, scoring 4 goals, 13 assists with 8 penalty minutes.
Wilson represented Team USA in 4 IIHF Men’s World Championships (1975, 1981, 1983, 1987) and the 1988 Spengler Cup.
After retiring as a player, Wilson turned to coaching full time.
He was coach of IHL Milwaukee Admirals, assistant coach of NHL Vancouver Canucks, coach of NHL Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, NHL Washington Capitals, NHL San Jose Sharks and NHL Toronto Maple Leafs. (1,401 regular season NHL games with 648 wins).
With USA Hockey, Wilson was a head coach or assistant coach on 9 occasions.
Ronald L. “Ron” Wilson was inducted into the Providence College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990.
Ron Wilson was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2017.
