Patrick Denis Marleau - Born September 15, 1979 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan is a Canadian retired ice Hockey centre / left winger.

Marleau played 2 seasons of junior Hockey with Seattle Thunderbirds, team captain in his 2nd year. His birthday of September 15th was the cutoff for NHL draft eligibility. San Jose selected him 2nd overall in 1st round in 1997 and he made the Sharks roster for season opening night at 18 years old without having played a minor-league game.

Marleau made his NHL debut with San Jose Sharks on October 1, 1997 vs Edmonton Oilers at San Jose Arena in a 5-3 Oilers win.

Marleau scored his 1st NHL goal vs Nikolai Khabibulin of Phoenix Coyotes at 19:34 of 3rd period on October 19, 1997 at America West Arena in a 5-3 Phoenix win.

Marleau scored his 1st NHL hat-trick vs Manny Legace of Detroit Red Wings on April 6, 2002 at Compaq Center at San Jose in a 6-3 Sharks win. His 2nd goal was the game winner.

Marleau was 1st named Sharks captain in 2004, which he would wear the "C" on and off until 2009.

Marleau played his 1,768th NHL game on April 19, 2021, breaking the all-time NHL regular season games played record formerly held by Gordie Howe since 1961, and on April 21, Marleau became the 4th player in NHL history to record 900 consecutive games played.

Marleau played in 1779 regular season NHL games, scoring 566 goals (109 GWG / 11 OTG), 631 assists with 527 penalty minutes and 195 NHL playoff games, scoring 72 goals (16 GWG / 4 OTG), 55 assists with 81 penalty minutes.

Marleau played in NHL All-Star Games 2004, 2007, 2009.

Marleau represented Canada 45 times as a senior, scoring 7 goals, 18 assists with 14 penalty minutes.

Marleau's number 12 was retired by the San Jose Sharks on February 25, 2023, becoming the 1st member of the San Jose Sharks franchise to receive this honor.

Patrick Marleau was inducted into the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame in 2024.

NOTE
Marleau holds the distinction of playing the most NHL games (both regular season and playoffs) without winning the Stanley Cup.
