EditLink Palmer Gaetz - Born October 2, 1968 in Vancouver, British Columbia is a Canadian retired ice & inline Hockey defenceman.
Gaetz, while playing for the WHL Spokane Chiefs in 1987-88, his last season of junior, he intimidated every team so much, that their tough guys were known to have a stomach flu on game days when playing against Link. Gaetz still had 313 penalty minutes during the season and another 70 in the WHL playoffs.
Gaetz made his NHL debut with Minnesota North Stars on October 6, 1988 vs St. Louis Blues at the Met Center in a 8-3 St. Louis win.
Gaetz scored his 1st NHL goal vs Kelly Hrudey of Los Angeles Kings 13:56 of 3rd period on October 16, 1991 at Great Western Forum in a 8-5 Kings win.
Gaetz played in 65 regular season NHL games, scoring 6 goals, 8 assists with 412 penalty minutes. No NHL playoff games.
Link dropped the gloves against some of the Best NHL Fighters ... Probert, Kocur, Pelouso, Odjick.
Gaetz was a menacing 6'3", 240 pounds when he's in shape, and a scarier 270 when he's not. Most of his career was with many minor league Hockey teams, his own players scared of him. He was kicked off teams, suspended from leagues, and sent scores of players to the hospital and spent countless nights in jail. He is, by the account of anyone who's ever played against or with him, the meanest and scariest Hockey player ever paid to skate. Gaetz had more than 4000 penalty minutes as a pro.
Gaetz was also in the Battle of the Hockey Enforcers held in Prince George, B.C. in July, 2005. Gaetz went down twice in the opening round and did not participate past the opening fight due to "concussion-like symptoms".
QUOTE
Minnesota North Stars GM Lou Nanne about the NHL Draft in 1988:
"In the first round we drafted Mike Modano to protect the franchise, in the second round we drafted Link to protect Mike. In the third we should've drafted a lawyer to protect Link"
