EditEdward Dario "Eddie" Mio - Born January 31, 1954 in Windsor, Ontario is a Canadian retired ice Hockey goaltender and player agent.
Mio played all of his early Hockey in the Windsor, Ontario area, including Detroit across the river, eventually playing for the Windsor Spitfires.
Mio then attended Colorado College from 1972 to 1976, making the NCAA West First Team All-American two years in a row.
After graduating, Mio played for the Tidewater Sharks, Erie Blades, Hampton Gulls before being traded to Indianapolis Racers, where he would meet and become friends with Wayne Gretzky.
Mio was then part of the Wayne Gretzky trade in November 1978, along with Peter Driscoll to the Edmonton Oilers from Indianapolis Racers. They were all stuck together in Nelson Skalbania's jet at the airport, waiting to see if they were being traded to Edmonton or Winnipeg.
Mio was with Edmonton when the franchise went from playing in the World Hockey Association / WHA to being a expansion team into the NHL in 1979.
Mio was later traded to the New York Rangers, and after 2 seasons with the Rangers, Mio was traded to the Detroit Red Wings in June 1983, where he played for the next 3 seasons, splitting time with the AHL Adirondack Red Wings, retiring in 1986.
Mio played in 192 regular season NHL games, winning 64, losing 73 with 30 ties, 4 shutouts, 11 assists and 47 penalty minutes. He played in 17 NHL playoff games, winning 9, losing 7.
Eddie Mio was inducted into Windsor-Essex County Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.
