John Albert "Bert" McCaffrey - Born April 12, 1893 in Lockton, Albion Township, Peel County, Ontario - Died April 15, 1955 in Toronto, Ontario was a Canadian ice Hockey right winger/defenceman, referee and linesman.

- Olympic Gold Medal Champion 1924 Winter Olympics in Chamonix, France with Team Canada / Toronto Granites.

- Stanley Cup Champion 1930 with Montreal Canadiens.

On October 16, 1924, McCaffrey signed as a Free Agent with the Toronto St. Pats, and played his first NHL game on November 29, 1924 at the Montreal Forum in a 7-1 Montreal win.

He scored his 1st NHL goal vs Hec Fowler of the Boston Bruins at 18:15 of the 2nd period on December 3, 1924 in the Mutual Street Arena in a 5-3 Toronto win.

McCaffrey was still in Toronto during the St. Pats transformation into the Toronto Maple Leafs. In December, 1927 he was traded as part of a 3-team trade by the Toronto Maple Leafs to the NHL Pittsburgh Pirates.. Pittsburgh had sent Ty Arbour to the Chicago Black Hawks. The Chicago Black Hawks sent Eddie Rodden to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

McCaffrey was again traded this time to the Montreal Canadiens by Pittsburgh for Gord Fraser, December 23, 1929.

McCaffrey would help the Canadiens win the 1930 Stanley Cup championship. He scored just 1 goal in 6 playoff games, but it was a very important one in the final game of the playoffs, as Montreal defeated Boston 4-3 for the championship.

McCaffrey is also on pictures of the 1931 Montreal championship team, but he was sent down to the minors half way through the season and never played in the NHL again.

McCaffrey played in 261 regular season NHL games, scoring 43 goals (6 GWG), 35 assists with 204 penalty minutes and 10 NHL playoff games, scoring 2 goals, 1 assist with 10 penalty minutes.

After retiring as a player, McCaffrey started a career as a senior amateur league referee and an NHL linesman.

Bert McCaffrey was inducted into the Caledon Sport Hall of Fame in 2024.
