The Calgary Canadians were Abbott Memorial Cup champions.
The Regina Pats had won 8 straight Saskatchewan championships.
The Winnipeg Tammany Tigers were Manitoba champions.
The Owen Sound Greys were J. Ross Robertson Cup Junior champions of the OHA.
The Regina Pats opened the tournament vs Winnipeg Tammany Tigers on March 18, 1924 winning 2-0, then 7-2 on the 20th, winning the 2 game total goals 9-2.
Regina then played the Calgary Canadians on the 22nd, winning 4-2, but Calgary would win game 2 on the 24th in overtime 5-2, winning the series 7-6 on goals.
Calgary then played Owen Sound Greys in the 2 game final. Game 1 on March 26, had Owen Sound winning 5-3. Game 2 of the final was on March 28, ending in a 2-2 tie, giving Owen Sound the 1924 Memorial Cup championship. Their goalie Hedley Smith was the hero, as Calgary had outplayed Owen Sound in the series.
