EditNew York Americans 1929
National Hockey League / NHL
Team Roster
L to R - Roy "Shrimp" Worters, Harry Connor, Wilfred "Tex" White, Billy Burch, Tommy Gorman (manager), Lionel Conacher, Leo Reise Sr., Johnny "Jake" Sheppard, Charley "Rabbit" McVeigh, ?
The New York Americans played 44 regular season NHL games and finished in 2nd place in the "Canadian Division" with 19 wins, 13 losses and 12 ties, Billy Burch led the team in goals (12) and assists (5).
Roy Worters would be named winner of the Hart Trophy.
His thick felt guards over his gloves are quite interesting.
The New York Americans then played the New York Rangers in 2 NHL quarter final playoff games, with game one ending in a 0-0 tie on March 19, then the Rangers won game two in overtime 1-0 on March 21 and eliminated the Americans.
The New York Americans then went on a West Coast exhibition tour, playing games vs Pacific Coast Hockey League / PCHL Portland Buckaroos at Portland Ice Arena (seen here), Seattle Eskimos at Civic Ice Arena and the Vancouver Lions at Denman Arena. All games played in April, 1929.
NOTE
The players seen here have no skate guards on and standing on the roadway. Most are using Spalding Tom Howard model Hockey sticks.
The gentleman at far right....Beckett is not holding his Hockey stick in a relaxed position like the other players, so we suspect he is not a Hockey player.
