England defeated Ireland 6-1 at the very 1st Hockey Match played at Wembley Stadium on March 3, 1951.
30,000 attended the match. Mrs J. Hamilton Bates scored 4 goals in the match.
The English women would go on to contest an annual match against international opponents every year up to 1991, winning 25 of their 41 matches and attracting a record crowd of 68,000 in 1976.
