Sam Lavitt - Born August 1, 1922 in Winnipeg, Manitoba - Died October 20, 2012 in Columbia, Missouri was a Canadian professional ice Hockey defenceman.

Lavitt played for the Dallas Texans (1941-42), and during World War II he played for the Winnipeg R.C.A.F. Bombers.

Lavitt was also a star with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League prior to World War II, also playing for the Winnipeg RCAF Bombers, who finished first in the Armed Forces Rugby League with a 6-0 record in 1943.

Lavitt saw duty in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II as a pilot.

Lavitt then played 3 seasons for the Omaha Knights from 1946 to 1949, and played in 176 games, scored 29 goals and 52 assists before he was traded to the Minneapolis Millers for the 1949-50 season.

Lavitt then signed with the American Hockey League / AHL Cleveland Barons for the 1950-51 season, helping the Barons with the 1951 Calder Cup championship, where he scored a goal and 2 assists in 11 playoff games.

Lavitt was traded during the next season to the AHL Buffalo Bisons, playing there until 1953.

Lavitt then went West to play in the Western Hockey League / WHL for 3 seasons, playing for the Victoria Cougars (1953-54), New Westminster Royals (1954-55) and his final season of pro Hockey with the Seattle Americans in the 1955-56 season.

Lavitt returned to Omaha following his playing career and helped other ex-Knights in the formative years of youth Hockey in the city.

Sam Lavitt was inducted into the Omaha Hockey Hall of Fame on October 11, 2002.
