John Murdoch "Cheech" Garrett - Born June 17, 1951 in Trenton, Ontario - Died April 27, 2026 was a Canadian ice Hockey goaltender and television sports commentator.

- Memorial Cup Champion 1970 with Montreal Junior Canadiens

After playing in the WHA for 6 seasons, Garrett made his NHL debut with Hartford Whalers vs Minnesota North Stars on October 11, 1979 at Metropolitan Sports Center in a 4-1 Minnesota win.

Garrett got his 1st NHL win vs Los Angeles Kings on October 19, 1979 at Springfield Civic Center in a 6-3 Hartford win.

Garrett got his 1st NHL shutout vs Winnipeg Jets on March 2, 1983 at Winnipeg Arena in a 3-0 Vancouver win.

Garrett played in 207 regular season NHL games, winning 68, losing 91, 37 ties, 1 shutout, 6 assists with 41 penalty minutes and 9 NHL playoff games, winning 4, losing 3.

Garrett holds the record for the most losses by any goalie in World Hockey Association / WHA history with 151 in regular season and 15 in playoffs.

NOTE
Garrett was involved in one of the oddest scenarios in the history of the NHL All-Star Game. Replacing an injured Richard Brodeur, the Vancouver Canucks' only representative at the 1983 All-Star game that year, John Garrett was voted the game's MVP before the end of the game. After Wayne Gretzky scored four times in the last ten minutes, a re-vote was held and Gretzky was named the All-Star Game MVP.

P.S. - Garrett loved Heinz Ketchup
