In the 1956 NHL playoffs, the Canadiens defeated New York Rangers 4-1 in semifinals games, then defeated Detroit Red Wings 4-1 in games to win Stanley Cup championship.

NOTE
Canadiens captain Butch Bouchard would retire after this season...... he only played 2 playoff games for the Canadiens, including the Cup-clinching victory against the Detroit Red Wings on April 10th.
