Montreal Canadiens Maurice "Rocket" Richard was the NHL's first 50-goal scorer during the 1944-45 season..... 50 goals in 50 games.

2nd - Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion scored 50 goals in 64 games during the 1960-61 season.

3rd - Bobby Hull scored 50 goals in 70 games during the 1961-62 season.

NOTE
Hull would go on to score 50 goals or more another 4 times.
