EditAndre Joseph "Andy" Barbe - Born July 27, 1923 in Coniston, Ontario - Died January 15, 2004 in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania was a Canadian/American ice Hockey right winger and coach.
- Phil Henderson Cup (Lester Patrick Cup) Champion 1947 with Los Angeles Monarchs.
- Calder Cup Champion 1952, 1955 with Pittsburgh Hornets.
- F. G. "Teddy" Oke Trophy Champion 1952, 1955 with Pittsburgh Hornets.
Barbe started his pro Hockey career with the Oakland Oaks in 1945 and would join the Los Angeles Monarchs the next season, having 3 solid years playing for them in the Pacific Coast Hockey League / PCHL, winning the Phil Henderson Cup in 1947 as league champions. He scored 157 goals in the 3 seasons there and caught the interest of the Toronto Maple Leafs, who signed him and sent him to their farm team, the Pittsburgh Hornets.
Barbe played 6 seasons in the American Hockey League / AHL with Pittsburgh, winning the the Calder Cup 2 times.
Barbe was called up to the NHL by Toronto, playing 1 game on January 18, 1951, having no points and a 2 minute holding penalty in the game.
Andy Barbe was inducted into the Western Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1977.
Andy Barbe was inducted into the Greater Sudbury Sports Hall of Fame in 2017.
NOTE
Barbe became good friends with Tim Horton while playing in Pittsburgh, and his wife Frances sang at Horton's wedding.
