Barry James Melrose - Born July 15, 1956 in Kelvington, Saskatchewan - Died September 9, 2026 was a Canadian ice Hockey defenceman, coach, general manager, commentator and Hockey analyst.

Melrose played his junior Hockey with Weyburn Red Wings and Kamloops Chiefs.

Melrose made his NHL debut with Winnipeg Jets on October 10, 1979 vs Pittsburgh Penguins at Pittsburgh Civic Arena in a 4-2 Penguins win. He had 1 assist in the game.

Melrose scored his 1st NHL goal vs Göran Högosta of Quebec Nordiques at 13:34 of 3rd period at Quebec Coliseum in a 5-2 Jets win.

Melrose would later play for NHL Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings.

Melrose played in 300 regular season NHL games, scoring 10 goals (1 GWG), 23 assists with 728 penalty minutes and 7 NHL playoff games, scoring 2 assists with 38 penalty minutes.

After retiring as a player, Melrose would get into coaching, winning the 1988 Memorial Cup with Medicine Hat Tigers, the the 1992 Calder Cup with Adirondack Red Wings.

Melrose then signed with the Los Angeles Kings for the 1992-93 season, leading the Kings to the 1993 Stanley Cup finals, losing to Montreal.

After his coaching career, Melrose became a commentator and Hockey analyst for ESPN as well as a contributor for the NHL Network.
