The Boston Garden was an arena in Boston, Massachusetts. Designed by boxing promoter Tex Rickard, and opened on November 17, 1928, as "Boston Madison Square Garden" (later shortened to just "Boston Garden").

It was above North Station, a train station which was originally a hub for the Boston and Maine Railroad and is now a hub for MBTA Commuter Rail and Amtrak trains.

The 1st ice Hockey game at Boston Garden was on November 20, 1928 with Montreal Canadiens vs Boston Bruins in a 1-0 Montreal win.
Sylvio Mantha scored the 1st goal at 19:58 of the 2nd period.

The Stanley Cup was awarded 7 times at Boston Garden.

The Beanpot, a annual ice Hockey tournament held between the four major US college Hockey teams of the Boston, Massachusetts area was held at Boston Garden from 1954 through 1995.

The Soviet Central Red Army / CSKA Moscow played the Boston Bruins at The Garden on January 8, 1976 in the NHL - Soviet Super Series. Boston lost 5-2.

The last sporting event at the Boston Garden was a preseason NHL game between the Boston Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens on September 26, 1995. In a special post-game ceremony, which included many former Bruins greats, the banners and retired numbers were removed.
