Crha was the first goaltender to defect (Czechoslovakia) and play in the NHL.

His 1st game was on February 16, 1980 vs the Hartford Whalers, when he replaced Curt Ridley half way through the 2nd period with the game tied 2-2. Toronto won the game 5-3
