Gamble made his NHL debut with New York Rangers on February 11, 1959 vs Boston Bruins at Madison Square Garden in a 5-3 Bruins win.
Gamble was claimed by the Boston Bruins in a NHL Intra-League Draft in June 1959.
Gamble got his 1st NHL victory on November 19, 1960 vs Detroit Red Wings at Boston Garden in a 6-4 Bruins win.
Gamble got his 1st NHL shutout vs Detroit Red Wings on March 15, 1962 at Detroit Olympia in a 4-0 Bruins win.
Gamble then played a few seasons in the minors for Portland Buckaroos, Kingston Frontenacs, Springfield Indians, Marquette Iron Rangers, Tulsa Oilers.
Gamble returned to the NHL in 1966, playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs, debuting on March 2, 1966 vs Montreal Canadiens at Maple Leaf Gardens in a 3-3 tie. Gamble then set a Maple Leafs record, posting 4 shutouts in 5 games - 4-0 win vs Canadiens on March 3rd at The Forum, 5-0 win vs Black Hawks on March 5th at Maple Leaf Gardens, 5-3 win vs Bruins on March 6th at Boston Garden, 1-0 win vs Red Wings on March 9th at Maple Leaf Gardens, 6-0 win vs Bruins on March 12th at Maple Leaf Gardens. Gamble played 10 games to finish the season with Toronto, winning 5, losing 2 with 3 ties.
Gamble played 23 games for Toronto the next season, 7 games for Tulsa Oilers and finished the season with 6 games with Rochester Americans.
Gamble then played 3 seasons plus with Toronto before they traded him to Philadelphia Flyers on February 1, 1971.
Gamble had to retire after suffering a heart attack while playing with the Flyers on February 9, 1972.
Gamble played in 327 regular season NHL games, winning 111, losing 151 with 46 ties, 22 shutouts, 3.22 GAA, 1 assist and 24 penalty minutes and 5 NHL playoff games with 0 wins, 4 losses and a 7.29 GAA.
