EditVictor Dennis "Vic" Mercredi - Born March 31, 1953 in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories is a retired Canadian Indigenous (Métis) ice Hockey centre/left winger.
While playing with Penticton Broncos of the British Columbia Junior Hockey League in 1970-71, Mercredi had a break-out season, scoring 50 goals, 56 assists and was named to the BCJHL First Team All-Star and was selected as BCJHL Most Valuable Player / MVP for the season.
Mercredi then played 2 seasons for the New Westminster Bruins in the Western Canada Hockey League (WHL), leading the Bruins in scoring during his 2nd season (1972-73) there with 52 goals and 113 points.
Mercredi later became the 1st Hockey player born in the Northwest Territories to play in the National Hockey League, when he made his NHL debut with Atlanta Flames on December 6, 1974 vs Vancouver Canucks at Pacific Coliseum in a 7-5 Canucks win. He played the next game too vs Los Angeles Kings on December 7, 1974 at The Forum in a 6-2 Kings win. He played just these 2 NHL games. 0 points or penalties.
Vic Mercredi was inducted into the NWT Sport Hall of Fame in 2013.
Vic Mercrdei was inducted into the North American Indigneous Athletics Hall of Fame in 2024.
