EditEdward George "Eddie" Wares - Born March 19, 1915 in Calgary, Alberta - Died February 29, 1992 in Calgary, Alberta was a Canadian ice Hockey right winger, defenceman and coach.

Wares played all his minor and junior Hockey in Calgary, playing junior with the Calgary Shamrocks and Calgary Jimmies.
Wares then played senior Hockey with the Calgary Bronks in the 1934-35 season.
Wares turned pro in 1935, and played his first pro season with Philadelphia Ramblers, playing in Philadelphia until early 1938. The New York Rangers had his rights during this time, and Wares played 2 games for the Rangers in 1937, making his NHL debut on February 9, 1937 vs Toronto Maple Leafs, also scoring his 1st NHL goal vs Turk Broda at 18:14 of 2nd period at Madison Square Garden in a 2-1 Rangers win. Wares scored both goals for New York.
Wares was back in Philadelphia for the start of the 1937-38 season, playing 25 games for the Ramblers before he was traded on January 17, 1938 by the Rangers to Detroit Red Wings for cash and the loan of John Sherf for the remainder of the 1937-38 season.
Wares played for the Red Wings and their farm team, the Indianapolis Capitols for the next 6 seasons, and helped the Red Wings win the 1943 Stanley Cup championship, scoring 3 goals, 3 assists in the playoffs. his 3 assists were all in the finals.
World War II saw Wares miss three NHL seasons, but he did get to play with the Calgary Combines (1943-44), Calgary Navy and the Halifax Navy (1944-45).
Wares was then traded to the Chicago Black Hawks by Detroit for cash, October 11, 1945, and played in Chicago for 2 seasons.
Wares was traded to the AHL Cleveland Barons by Chicago for cash, September, 1947, and played for 2 seasons with the Barons, helping Cleveland win the 1948 Calder Cup championship.
Wares was traded to the Kansas City Pla-Mors in 1949.
Wares finished his pro career as a player / coach in British Columbia with the Pacific Coast Hockey League Victoria Cougars during the 1949-50 season.
Wares played 3 seasons with the Nelson Maple Leafs of the Western International Hockey League, also helping to coach.
Wares played in 324 regular season NHL games, scoring 60 goals (14 GWG / 1 OTG), 102 assists with 161 penalty minutes and 38 NHL playoff games, scoring 5 goals (1 GWG), 7 assists with 32 penalty minutes.
Eddie Wares was inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 1980
