Canada and Soviet Union played for the championship on September 13, 1981, with the Soviets winning 8-1 at Montreal Forum.

Gretzky finished as top scorer with 12 points (5 goals).
Bossy scored the most goals with 8 (11 points).
Alexei Kasatonov had the most assists with 10 (11 points).

NOTE
The fate of the Canada Cup trophy itself was the subject of controversy after Canadian Hockey officials accompanied by Montreal Police prevented the Soviet team from taking the trophy back to the Soviet Union. As he took the Cup from the Soviets at the airport, Tournament organizer Allan Eagleson claimed that the trophy was intended to remain in Canada at all times.
