EditDonald Charles "Don" Head - Born June 30, 1933 in York Township, Ontario is a Canadian/American retired ice Hockey goaltender.
- Winter Olympics Silver Medal Winner 1960 with Team Canada.
- Lester Patrick Cup Champion 1961, 1965 with Portland Buckaroos, 1968 with Seattle Totems.
Head was named to the 1961 WHL all-star team and was chosen the 1961 WHL rookie of the year and outstanding goalkeeper.
Head made his NHL debut with Boston Bruins on October 11, 1961 vs New York Rangers at Boston Garden in a 6-2 Rangers win.
Head got his 1st NHL win on October 26, 1961, a 4-0 shutout vs Detroit Red Wings at Boston Garden.
Head played in 38 regular season NHL games, winning 9, losing 26, 3 ties, 2 shutouts with 14 penalty minutes.
Head then returned to the Portland Buckaroos, playing there until 1967, and finished his pro Hockey with the Seattle Totems, playing until 1971.
Don Head was elected to the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 1993.
NOTE
Don Head was the 1st goalie in professional Hockey to receive 100+ minutes in penalties in one season, while he was with Portland Buckaroos during the 1960-61 WHL season. Head received 101 penalty minutes and another 14 in the playoffs, as Portland won the 1961 Lester Patrick Cup.
