EditYvan Serge "The Roadrunner" Cournoyer - Born November 22, 1943 in Drummondville, Quebec is a Canadian retired ice Hockey right winger, coach and current ambassador for the Montreal Canadiens.

Cournoyer made his NHL debut with the Montreal Canadiens on November 28, 1963 vs Detroit Red Wings at the Detroit Olympia, also scoring his 1st NHL goal vs Harrison Gray at 17:55 of the 3rd period in a 7-3 Montreal win.
Cournoyer scored his 1st NHL hat-trick vs Gary Smith of the Toronto Maple Leafs on December 21, 1966 at Montreal Forum in a 6-2 Montreal win.

Cournoyer played for Team Canada in the 1972 Summit Series / Canada–USSR Series, and is part of the famous picture wherein Paul Henderson jumps into his arms after scoring the game and series winner. Cournoyer scored 3 goals during the 8 game series. Late in the third period (52:56) of Game 8, his goal tied the score, making a win by Canada possible.
Cournoyer played 968 regular season NHL games, scoring 428 goals (68 GWG), 435 assists and 233 penalty minutes. He played 147 NHL playoff games, scoring 64 goals (15 GWG), 63 assists and 45 penalty minutes.
Cournoyer Scored 25 or more goals in 11 of his 16 seasons playing at the Montreal Forum.
Cournoyer retired 15 games into the 1978-79 NHL season, as his back and spinal disc would not allow him to play at the level he wanted.
"The Roadrunner" as Cournoyer was known, was told many times in his early playing days he was too small, and his response was "try me once" and the Speedy Little Winger always delivered. His dashes down the wing are legendary at The Forum, he loved playing in Montreal, and would eventually be the captain of the Montreal Canadiens for 3 full seasons hoisting the Stanley Cup in The Spectrum in 1976 and Boston Garden in 1977 and 1978.
Yvon Cournoyer was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1982.
The Montreal Canadiens retired his jersey number 12 on November 12, 2005.
In 2017 Yvon Cournoyer was named one of the '100 Greatest NHL Players' in history
