William Alton Carter - Born December 2, 1937 in Cornwall, Ontario is a Canadian former professional ice Hockey forward.

Carter began in the Montreal organization and then moved on to the Ottawa-Hull Canadiens, winning a Memorial Cup championship in 1958 and earning a one-game callup to the Montreal Canadiens at the Forum. However, the Canadiens weren't impressed with his development and sold him to Boston in 1960, despite his scoring 42 goals and 102 points with Ottawa-Hull in 1959-60.

A year later the Canadiens re-acquired him in a straight cash transaction after eight games with Boston. Again, though, he couldn't establish himself with Montreal and he was back with the minor pro Canadiens. Over the next seven years, Carter played for the Quebec Aces - 1963-64, Seattle Totems - 1964–65, Omaha Knights 1965 and 1967–68, the Buffalo Bisons in 1965–66, 1966–67 and, alongside his Omaha Knights commitment, in 1967–68. His final season before retirement, 1968–69, was spent with the Denver Spurs.
