Frederick Lionel Hitchman (November 3, 1901 in Toronto, Ontario – January 12, 1969 in Glens Falls, New York) was a Canadian Professional Ice Hockey defenceman who played twelve seasons in the National Hockey League for the Ottawa Senators and Boston Bruins - Hitchman's #3 jersey was retired by the Boston Bruins on February 22, 1934, the first time in North American professional sports history that a player's number was officially and permanently retired - Hitchman retired with 27 goals and 33 assists in 414 career NHL games, adding 523 penalty minutes - Stanley Cup Champion 1923, 1929
