EditMontreal Canadiens won the NHA Championship after finishing the 1915–16 regular season in first place with a 16–7–1 record. Portland Rosebuds won the 1915–16 PCHA title with a 13–5 record. The Rosebuds were the first team based in the United States to play for the Stanley Cup. This championship series was the 1st to play all 5 games to decide the Stanley Cup Champion. The Canadiens would win the 1st Stanley Cup in franchise history while playing all 5 games at Westmount Arena in Montreal. Game 1 was played on March 20, 1916 with the Rosebuds winning 2 to 0. Game 2 was played on March 22, 1916, with the Canadiens winning 2 to 1. Game 3 was played on March 25, 1916 with the Canadiens winning again 6 to 3. Game 4 was played on March 28, 1916 with the Rosebuds winning 6 to 5. Game 5, the championship game, was played on March 30, 1916.
