The Des Moines Capitols played a 76 game regular IHL season, winning 45, losing 25 with 6 ties and finished 1st in IHL South Division.

In the 1974 IHL playoffs, Des Moines defeated Flint Generals 4-0 in games in semi finals and Saginaw Gears 4-2 in games to win 1974 Turner Cup championship.

Frank DeMarco won the Gary F. Longman Memorial Trophy as IHL Rookie of the Year.
