EditJohn George Ashley - Born March 5, 1930 in Galt, Ontario – Died January 5, 2008 in Kitchener, Ontario was a Canadian ice Hockey defenceman and NHL referee.
- J. Ross Robertson Cup Junior Champion 1950 with Guelph Biltmores / Guelph Biltmore Mad Hatters.
- Calder Cup Champion 1952 with Pittsburgh Hornets
- F. G. "Teddy" Oke Trophy Champion 1952 with Pittsburgh Hornets.
As a referee, Ashley refereed the Stanley Cup finals championship winning game in 1964, 1965, 1967, 1971.
During the 1971 Stanley Cup playoffs, Ashley achieved a first for NHL referees by officiating the seventh game of all three series that went the limit: a quarterfinal (Montreal vs. Boston), a semifinal (New York vs. Chicago), and the final (Montreal vs. Chicago).
John Ashley was inducted into the Hockey Hall Of Fame as an Official in 1981.
John Ashley was elected to the Cambridge Sports Hall of Fame in 1998.
