The Canadiens finished the 1964-65 NHL regular season (70 games) with a record of 36 wins, 23 losses, 11 ties.

They defeated Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2 in games in playoff semi-final, then Chicago Black Hawks 4-3 for the 1965 Stanley Cup championship.

Jean Béliveau was the inaugural winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP.

NOTE
This was first time the Montreal Canadiens were winners of the NEW Stanley Cup, known as the authenticated "Presentation Cup" as the original bowl "Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup" was retired, last being won in either 1962 or 1963 by Toronto.
