Harold Carlyle "Carl" Liscombe - Born May 17, 1915 in Perth, Ontario – Died February 24, 2004 in Wailuku, Hawaii was a Canadian/American Ice Hockey left winger.

Liscombe made his NHL debut with Detroit Red Wings on November 25, 1937 vs Chicago Black Hawks, also scoring his 1st NHL goal vs Mike Karakas at 7:00 of 2nd period at Detroit Olympia in a 4-1 Detroit win. His goal was the game winner.

Liscombe scored his 1st NHL hat-trick vs Steve Buzinski of the New York Rangers on November 5, 1942 at Detroit Olympia.

Liscombe played 380 regular season NHL games, scoring 137 goals (21 GWG / 1 OTG), 140 assists with 117 penalty minutes, and 57 NHL playoff games, scoring 22 goals (3 GWG), 19 assists with 20 penalty minutes.

Liscombe was a key member of the 1943 Stanley Cup champions. Liscombe scored 19 goals and had 23 assists for 42 points in the regular season, then turned up the heat in the playoffs with a team-high six goals (tied with Joe Carveth) and a team-leading 14 points as the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup with a 4-0 sweep of the Boston Bruins in the Finals. He shares the Detroit team record for most goals in a playoff game and most points in a game.

Liscombe also played for the Detroit Olympics 1935-36, Pittsburgh Hornets 1936-37, Indianapolis Capitals 1939-40, St. Louis Flyers-Providence Reds 1946-47, Providence Reds 1947 to 1950, Detroit Auto Club-Sarnia 1950-51, Detroit Hettche 1951-52 and the senior Hamilton Tigers 1953-54.

Liscombe scored 50 and 55 goals in successive seasons (1947-48 and 1948-49) for the Providence Reds of the AHL, setting a new AHL scoring record with 118 points in 1947-48 season, also becoming the 1st Pro Hockey Player to record 100 points or more during a season.

Liscombe held (since passed) the NHL record for the fastest three goals in a game (one minute, four seconds) against the Chicago Black Hawks on March 13, 1938.

Carl ‘Lefty’ Liscombe was inducted into the Cambridge Sports Hall of Fame in 1997

NOTE
Liscombe and Detroit manager Jack Adams never got along, not speaking to each other for many years. Adams would send Liscombe to the minors in 1946, and he would never play another NHL game, even though he set new records in the AHL while playing there.
