Crha was the first goaltender to defect from Czechoslovakia and play in the NHL. He played with Toronto during the 1980-81 season.

His 1st game was on February 16, 1980 vs the Hartford Whalers, when he replaced Curt Ridley half way through the 2nd period with the game tied 2-2. Toronto won the game 5-3

Crha played in 69 regular season NHL games, winning 28, losing 27 with 11 ties and 5 NHL playoff games, all losses.

Crha played in the 1976 Winter Olympics, winning a Silver Medal with Czechoslovakia
