Joseph Charles "Joe" Jerwa - Born January 22, 1907 in Krakow, Poland (Russian Empire) – Died April 11, 1983 in Coquitlam, British Columbia, was a Polish/Canadian ice Hockey defenseman.

The Jerwa family migrated to North America sometime around 1913, and settled in Alberta, Canada.

Jerwa played in the Alberta Senior Hockey League with the Canmore Miners before joining the Vancouver Lions of the Pacific Coast Hockey League, where he played with his younger brother Frank Jerwa.

Jerwa was traded by the Lions to the NHL New York Rangers with Red Beattie for $25,000 on May 6, 1930. He made his NHL debut on December 14, 1930 vs the Detroit Falcons, also scoring his 1st NHL goal vs Dolly Dolson, the game winner in a 3-0 win at Madison Square Garden.

Jerwa played 37 games for the Rangers during the 1930-31 season, scoring 4 goals, 7 assists. Jerwa also played 9 games with the Rangers affiliate, the Springfield Indians of the Canadian-American Hockey League / Can-Am.

Jerwa was then traded to the Boston Bruins by the Rangers for Norman "Dutch" Gainor, August 25, 1931. Jerwa would play only 11 games for the Bruins with 0 points, and sent to their affiliate, the Boston Cubs of the Can-Am to finish the season, where he scored 7 goals, 15 assists, and another 2 goals, 2 assists in the playoffs.

Jerwa played the 1932-33 season for the Cubs, scoring 10 goals, 18 assists, and 4 goals, 2 assists in the playoffs, helping the Cubs reach the finals of the Can-Am league.

Jerwa played the next 2 seasons with the Cubs, while also getting a 2 game call up to the Bruins during the 1933-34 season, with 0 points.

Jerwa was then traded to the New York Americans by Boston with Nels Stewart for cash, September 28, 1935, scoring 9 goals, 12 assists for the Americans in the regular season, and 2, goals, 3 assists in 5 playoff games.

The rights for Jerwa were then returned to Boston by the Americans after New York failed to complete purchase agreement, May 27, 1936. Jerwa would play 26 games for the Bruins, scoring 3 goals, 5 assists.

Jerwa was then traded back to the New York Americans for the loan of Al Shields and future considerations (rights to Terry Reardon and Tom Cooper, October 17, 1937) on January 25, 1937.

Jerwa played the next 2 seasons in New York, and made the Stanley Cup playoffs three times while with the Americans and enjoyed the most ice time of his NHL career, playing a total of 174 NHL games for the Americans.

Jerwa was then traded to the Cleveland Barons (IAHL) for cash, October 12, 1939, and would play his final 3 seasons there before retiring in 1942.
