Edward "Eddie" Giacomin - Born June 6, 1939 in Sudbury, Ontario - Died September 14, 2025 in Birmingham, Michigan was a Canadian/American ice Hockey goaltender and coach.

- Northern Ontario Hockey Association Midget Champion 1955 with Gatchell Midgets.

- F. G. "Teddy" Oke Trophy Champion 1963 with Providence Reds.

- Vezina Trophy Winner 1971 (shared with Gilles Villemure).

Stanley Cup finalist 1972.

After playing his junior Hockey, Giacomin would turn pro with Washington Presidents of Eastern Hockey League / EHL in 1958. He also played for EHL Clinton Comets and New York Rovers.

Giacomin then played with Providence Reds in the American Hockey League / AHL from 1960 to 1965, gaining much valuable playing time and learning the pro game.

The New York Rangers had been watching Giacomin, needing a backup for Cesare Maniago. Giacomin made his NHL debut with the Rangers on October 24, 1965 vs Montreal Canadiens in a 4-3 loss at Madison Square Garden.

Giacomin got his 1st NHL victory vs Boston Bruins on October 30, 1965 at Boston Garden in a 8-2 Rangers win.

Giacomin's only had 8 NHL win's in his first season 1965-66, and struggled badly enough where the Rangers sent him to Baltimore Clippers of the AHL for 7 games.

Rangers GM Emile Francis, a former NHL goalie saw many good things in Giacomin's game. He had traded 4 players to Providence to get the him. Giacomin started to get his confidence back, leading the NHL with 30 wins the next season with 9 shutouts and was named an NHL First-Team All-Star.

Giacomin got his 1st NHL Shutout on October 23, 1966 vs Toronto Maple Leafs in a 1-0 win at Madison Square Garden.

Giacomin had 36 wins in 1967-68 and 37 the next season, leading the NHL again in wins ..... 3 straight years and the Rangers were making the playoffs too.

Giacomin and Gilles Villemure won the Vezina Trophy in 1970-71, when the Rangers allowed the fewest goals during the regular season.

Giacomin helped the Rangers to the 1972 Stanley Cup finals, losing to Bobby Orr and the Boston Bruins in 6 games.

Giacomin played another 3 seasons with New York, but they couldn't get past the playoff semifinals.

After a slow start for the 1975-76 NHL season, Giacomin was placed on waivers and picked up by Detroit, where he played for 2 full seasons. He was getting close to 40 years of age, when he started the 1977-78 season, and retired just before Christmas after playing 9 games.

Giacomin was selected to the NHL First All-Star Team in 1967, 1971 and the NHL Second All-Star Team in 1968, 1969, 1970.

Giacomin played in NHL All-Star games 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1973.

Giacomin played in 610 regular season NHL games, winning 290, losing 209 with 98 ties, 54 shutouts, 9 assists with 68 penalty minutes and 65 NHL playoff games, winning 29 , losing 35 with 1 shutout and 23 penalty minutes.

Giacomin's No. 1 was the 2nd jersey number retired by the New York Rangers, on March 15, 1989.

Giacomin was back in New York for 1 game in January, 1987 helping Wayne Cashman coach the Rangers.

Eddie Giacomin was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1987.
