Tardif made his NHL debut with Montreal Canadiens on October 11, 1969 vs Los Angeles Kings at Montreal Forum in a 5-1 Canadiens win.

Tardif scored his 1st NHL goal vs Bernie Parent of Philadelphia Flyers at 11:15 of 3rd period on October 19, 1969 at The Spectrum in a 1-1 tie.

Tardif played in 517 regular season NHL games, scoring 194 goals (23 GWG), 207 assists with 445 penalty minutes and 62 NHL playoff Games, scoring 13 goals (3 GWG), 15 assists with 75 penalty minutes.

Tardif played in the 1982 NHL All-Star Game.

Tardif played in 446 regular season WHA games, scoring 316 goals, 350 assists with 418 penalty minutes and 62 WHA playoff games, scoring 13 goals, 15 assists with 75 penalty minutes.

Tardif was playing with the WHA Nordiques when they joined the NHL in 1979, becoming the their 1st NHL captain.

Marc Tardif is a inaugural member of the World Hockey Association Hall of Fame in 2010.
