EditThe Stanley Cup Championship was contested by the New York Rangers and the Montreal Maroons. Game 1 was played on April 5, 1928 with the Maroons getting the shutout 2 to 0. Game 2 on April 7, 1928 saw Ice Hockey History when the Rangers lost their goalie Lorne Chabot to eye injury in the second game. In one of the most famous incidents in hockey history, 44-year-old coach Lester Patrick took over with the recorded words "Boys, don't let an old man down," and his efforts inspired the Rangers to a 2–1 victory in overtime. Patrick became the oldest person to play in the Stanley Cup finals (44 years-3 months-10 days old), a record which remains unsurpassed to this day. For the remainder of the series, the Rangers hired New York Americans goalie Joe Miller, who won two games including a shutout. Game 3 was played on April 10, 1928 with the Maroons once again shutting out the Rangers 2 to 0. Game 4 on April 12, 1928 had the Rangers in a very tight game, but winning 1 to 0. Game 5 on April 14, 1928 saw the Rangers win their 1st Stanley Cup with a 2 to 1 victory. All 5 games were played in the Montreal Forum, as the circus had taken over New York's Madison Square Garden.
