The International Hockey League / IHL Cleveland Falcons (Indians) were purchased in 1934 by Albert C. Sutphin a local Cleveland businessman.

In 1936, the Cleveland Falcons transferred to the International-American Hockey League / I-AHL along with 3 other teams from the IHL. They played the their first season 1936-37 as the Falcons in the I-AHL - West Division, as the Can-Am League which also merged with the I-AHL were the East Division.

In 1937 Sutphin and a syndicate of stockholders built the 10,000-seat Cleveland Arena.

They held a public contest, which chose the Cleveland Barons as the new name of his team.

The Cleveland Barons played their 1st I-AHL game at Cleveland Arena on November 20, 1937 vs Syracuse Stars in a 3-3 tie

Sutphin owned and operated The Cleveland Arena until April 1949, when he sold it and the Cleveland Barons to a group of Minneapolis investors.

Demolished in 1977.
