Salo made his NHL debut with New York Islanders on April 11, 1995 vs Tampa Bay Lightning at Thunderdome in a 5-2 Tampa Bay win.

Salo got his 1st NHL victory vs Quebec Nordiques on April 18, 1995 at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in a 5-2 New York win.

Salo got his 1st NHL shutout vs Washington Capitals on November 29, 1996 at USAir Arena in a 2-0 New York win.

Salo played in 526 regular season NHL games, winning 201, losing225, 73 ties with 37 shutouts, 7 assists and 67 penalty minutes and 22 NHL playoff games, winning 5, losing 16 with 1 assist and 4 penalty minutes.

Tommy Salo was elected to the Swedish Hockey Hall of Fame in 2013.

NOTE
Salo is the only Swedish goalkeeper to have played in three Winter Olympics in 1994, 1998, 2002.
