NHL president Clarence Campbell is officially presenting the Stanley Cup to Detroit Red Wings captain Ted Lindsay.
You can see Red Kelly and Jack Adams in the background.
In those days, the Stanley Cup was presented on a table at center ice, such as here at Detroit Olympia on April 14, 1955 where Lindsay is addressing the home crowd with 2 microphones.
Just prior to this photo being taken, Red Wings rookie coach Jimmy Skinner had leaned over and kissed the bowl of the Stanley Cup after it was put on the table, which then Lindsay went and kissed the bowl too while also hugging the Stanley Cup at the same time. Thus a tradition started of kissing the Stanley Cup that continues to this day.
Detroit would not win another Stanley Cup until 1997.
