Daniel Smith "Silent Danny" Cox - Born October 12, 1903 in Little Current, Ontario – Died August 8, 1982 was a professional ice Hockey forward and coach.

Cox played for the Port Arthur Seniors (Bearcats / Ports) from 1922 to 1926, helping the team win back to back Allan Cup championships in 1925 and 1926, along with the Pattinson Trophy (1925) Scotland Woolen Mills Trophy (1925&26), and the S.P.A. Trophy (1926).

Cox then turned pro for the 1926-27 season, and played for the Canadian-American Hockey League / Can-Am Hamilton Tigers and the NHL Toronto St. Patricks making his NHL debut on November 20, 1926 vs New York Rangers at Maple Leaf Gardens in a 5-1 Rangers win. He played 14 NHL games, picking up 1 assist.

In 1927-28, Cox played in 43 games with the now Toronto Maple Leafs, scoring his 1st NHL goal vs Charlie Gardiner of the Chicago Black Hawks at 13:50 of the 3rd period on November19, 1927 at Maple Leafs Gardens in a 4-2 Toronto win. He scored 9 goals and 14 points during the season. he played another full season in Toronto scoring 12 goals before being traded with cash for Frank Nighbor, to the Ottawa Senators in the 1929-30 season. During the following season in Ottawa, Cox scored nine goals and 21 points while playing in 44 games.

Cox played 1 year in Detroit, as he was claimed by the Falcons from Ottawa for the 1931-32 season in the Dispersal Draft, September 26, 1931, but was back in Ottawa the following season, and played with the Senators until January, 1934, when he signed with the New York Rangers, scoring 5 goals in 13 games to finish his NHL career.

Cox played six more years of pro Hockey, and became the player-coach of the CHL Minneapolis Millers in 1934-35. He then played for the CAHL / IAHL Philadelphia Ramblers for two seasons. He returned to player-coach, this time for the PCHL Seattle Sea Hawks in 1937-38, 1938–39, and 1940–41, and the AHA Wichita Skyhawks in 1939-40. He retired as a player in 1941 and was the coach of the Philadelphia Rockets in 1941-42.

Danny Cox played in 329 NHL games, scoring 47 goals and 50 assists.
