The Springfield Indians played a 70 game regular AHL season in 1971-72, winning 45, losing 22 with 3 ties and finished 1st in AHL East Division.
In the 1972 AHL playoffs, Springfield defeated Cleveland Barons 4 - 2 in games in 1st round, got a 2nd round bye and then defeated Buffalo Bisons 4 - 1 in games, to win the Calder Cup championship.
