Illustration from the February 29, 1896 issue of the Kingston Whig-Standard showing the collapsed Drill Shed Rink in Kingston, Ontario in the background, and Queen's College principal George Monro Grant shaking hands with Queen's College hockey captain Guy Curtis in the foreground.
The Drill Shed Rink in Kingston was built around 1860–1861 and stood for 35 years until it collapsed on February 7, 1896 due to old age and infirmity and an overweight of snow on its roof.
The rink was owned by Queen's College, but the directors of the Kingston Skating Rink had it rented for skating purposes. It was used almost exclusively for hockey purposes.
Sourced from Kingston Whig-Standard (February 29, 1896).
